Emotional reactions only matter when it comes from a point of honesty. When it seems that a tear or kind pat on the back has to be forced, then the moment is lost.
Childhood teaches us that if a parent has to tell a little one to apologize or be kind to another person; then it's almost like you are in a race to see what kind of reward you will receive after doing such a task.
Courage can be taking the initiative to actually stand up in front of a class or ask for a raise. Or, even write a friend a comment on their blog...:)
